Roatan was our FAVORITE port! Hands down! We hired a local driver through a local tour company that I found on the internet. Our driver Cardi was so friendly and knowlegable. He even took us to his house to meet his family. He took us around the island and took us to a very nice snorkling beach (Half Moon Bay) and left us there for about two hours. It was nice to be away from all the cruise ship crowds. There were only about ten people there. The snorkling was unbelivable! I felt like I was in the Finding Nemo movie. I bought a nice carved wooden fish and a Conch shell from a lady who was selling them from a card table at the beach. I paid 20 dollars for both. I know I could have probably talked her down in price but somehow that just seemed wrong at the time. 20 bucks for me is nothing but to her may have been a whole weeks wages. Yes there was unbelivable poverty on this island but what little time I spent there fell in love with the people and the beautiful scenery. I never felt unsafe like I did in Belize.
I would go back again in a heartbeat!
